How to Create Portable Office 2010 Starter USB Flash Drive

1. You must have installed Office Starter 2010 edition

2. Start Microsoft Office To-Go Device Manager from start menu

3. Click on Start button and let Office To-Go Device Manager to download required files

4. When you get screen asking for Select a device, insert your USB flash drive and select respective flash drive from the selection screen & click on install.

5. Now Office To-Go Device Manager will start installing Office Starter 2010 on selected USB drive.

6. A message will be displayed when Device To-Go completed installation. click on Close button.

7. Now Start Office.exe from USB flash drive to start portable Office starter 2010,

That’s it.

If you want to repair of uninstall portable Office starter 2010 from USB flash drive then follow steps 1-4. In step four inset USB drive on which you want to repair or uninstall Office Starter 2010.

On selecting USB flash drive, Microsoft Office To-Go Device Manager will automatically detect installed Office Starter 2010 and let you to Repair or Uninstall.

How to: Create a Facebook Fan Page

If you’ve recently graduated from college, it’s hard to imagine your college life apart from Facebook. Catching the latest gossip, becoming friends with that college superstar who has never heard of you and staying up-to-date on the latest happenings. And of course, everyone knows it’s not official until it’s on Facebook! However, Facebook is no longer just for college students. Many people reading this may have parents and even grandparents with an account now. Time Magazine even went as far as to publish an article recently called “Why Facebook is for Old Fogies“.

Facebook has not only become a place for young people to connect and network, but it has also become another avenue for businesses and organizations to connect, network and promote their organization. The main way to network on Facebook is of course by creating a profile or even a group, which can be a little more professional then just a profile. However, if you really want to network and promote yourself, business or organization, then creating a Facebook Fan Page is the best way to do this.

It can be a little difficult finding on Facebook where to begin a fan page, so you’ll have to go to the main page for creating a fan page. When beginning a fan page, you’re given the basics, which make it look like a glorified profile page. A raw fan page includes a wall, feed, photos, videos and list of fans. Although this can suffice, if you really want to attract fans who don’t justconsist of your circle of friends, you’ll want to make some upgrades to your page.

Making your fan page interactive and graphically appealing are two of the most important ways to attract new fans. Making it interactive can easily be done with Facebook’s Application Directory that has a wide-range of applications that can be added to your page with a couple clicks. If you have the resources (web developer/designer), or have some experience there yourself, it’s not too hard to develop a Facebook application. The advantage of this is that you can put your brand on the application and personalize it the way you want. I’ve seen people develop a facebook application in as quick as a few days. Putting interactive applications on your page gives users a reason to not just become fans, but to continually visit and interact on your page.

Along with making your fan page interactive, it’s important to give it some personality by making it look attractive. Facebook allows you to upload a logo or photo for your fan page, but that just isn’t enough. Give your page some flare. Put a sharp graphic linking to your website or a flashy banner along the side bar that promotes a contest. Doing something like this offers fans and potential fans a reason to not only visit your fan page often, but to also visit your company’s website or blog. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve visited a website, just to immediately leave because there was little effort put into the design of the site.

Take a stab at creating a Facebook fan page; it doesn’t cost anything and you can reap the benefits for yourself or business. Build off your page, keeping it fresh and new, so that your fans have a reason to come back to it.

How to downgrade Tally 9?

There may be chances that as a Tally user you have upgraded from some lower release to upper release. As Tally 9 rel 3 beta is upgraded from rel. 2.14 or lower you may get circumstances that you need to downgrade to earlier releases. The reason of downgrade may be various and it can vary from release to release.

1. You have upgraded to higher release just because of you have got the latest release in your hand, later you find out that, your current release version is not that much stable.
2. You have upgraded due to new feature and you found that your new feature is used but many other problems have cropped up.
3. You have upgraded but now you found that your TCP's or customizations made for earlier releases are not compatible with new release.

I have faced problem due to upgrade twice with my customers. First time it was with release 1.2 of Tally 9 when the higher version was very much unstable and frequent rewriting of data was faced. The second time it was with release 3 beta of Tally 9 when i found that customer's TCP files which were used for customisation were not compatible with Release 3 beta of Tally 9. In both the cases i have to switch to earlier version.
I learnt few lessons from these instances.

1. Never upgrade to higher version if it is running smoothly and no major problem is faced with existing release.
2. Before upgradation proper backup plan should be in mind and all precautions should be taken into consideration in form of data backup.
3. Sr. no, Key and email id should be handy before doing any misadventure.

How to downgrade a Tally release?
Two steps are involved in whole process.
First the exe file and then
The data should should be downgraded
As earlier told a proper backup of the data should be taken. In case of Tally 9 release 3 beta, license information should be with you and it should be properly surrendered first. After surrender Tally should be uninstalled by the utility. All files in tally folder should be properly removed and then older version exe should be installed in the same folder. Tally license can now be activated again.
Now comes data part. Open Tally and before opening the company press Ctrl+Alt+R at the company selection menu. It would ask for rewriting the company, press yes and rewrite the data. You would see that company is converted into lower release.

Important
Please note that this thing is not possible while downgrading Tally version 9 to Tally 7.2. Although this thing can work if you want to revert to Tally 6.3 from Tally 7.2. Our main focus of discussion is Tally 9 and it's releases. Yo should check various stats like the total no of ledgers, vouchers etc before and after downgradation.

Simple ways to speed up ur PC

You may have noticed that every-time you open my computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers every-time you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing significantly:

* Open My Computer
* Click on Tools menu
* Click on Folder Options
* Click on the View tab
* Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box
* Click Apply
* Click Ok
* Reboot your computer

Speed Up Boot Times
--------------------

This tweak works by creating a batch file to clear the temp and history folders everytime you shutdown so that your PC doesn't waste time checking these folders the next time it boots. Its quite simple to implement:

* Open Notepad and create a new file with the following entries:
RD /S /q "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\History"
RD /S /q "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\History"
RD /S /q "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp"

* Save the new as anything you like but it has to be a .bat file e.g. fastboot.bat or deltemp.bat
* Click 'Start' then 'Run'
* Type in 'gpedit.msc' and hit 'ok'
* Click on 'Computer Configuration' then 'Windows Settings'
* Double-click on 'Scripts' and then on 'Shutdown'
* Click 'Add' and find the batch file that you created and then press 'Ok'

Speedup Folder Access - Disable Last Access Update
--------------------------------------------------

If you have a lot of folders and subdirectories on your computer, when you access a directory XP wastes a lot of time updating the time stamp showing the last access time for that directory and for ALL sub directories. To stop XP doing this you need to edit the registry. If you are uncomfortable doing this then please do not attempt.

* Go to Start and then Run and type 'regedit'
* Click through the file system until you get to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\FileSys tem'
* Right-click in a blank area of the window on the right and select 'DWORD Value'
* Create a new DWORD Value called 'NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate'
* Then Right click on the new value and select 'Modify'
* Change the Value Data to '1'
* Click 'OK'

Improve Swapfile Performance
----------------------------

If you have more than 256MB of RAM this tweak will considerably improve your performance. It basically makes sure that your PC uses every last drop of memory (faster than swap file) before it starts using the swap file.

* Go to Start then Run
* Type msconfig.exe then ok
* Click on the System.ini tab
* Expand the 386enh tab by clicking on the plus sign and highlight it
* Click on new then in the blank box type "ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1" without quotes
* Click OK
* Restart PC

Tally Licensing : How to Actvite, Update and Surrender

Tally Licensing is one of the best thing for Tally and the most unique licensing system for stopping software piracy. In fact Tally is one of those software companies who had succeeded in stopping the piracy of software by implementing innovative licensing system.
Although it has proved a boon to company but is has been a bane for the users. This licensing system has raised difficulties for its users. According to Mr Bharat Goenka , Managing Director Tally India, life of pirated user is more easier the original user. All the hardship of licensing are faced by original user.
Many of Tally users have asked me about licensing related problem from time to time.These are related to activation of license, surrender of license and the updation of license. Lets understand the licensing process to solve the problems faced.

The Process of Licensing
After Installing Tally, you have to activate the license. Activation of license actually puts the signature of your computer into Tally's server. The signature, which contains information related to version of operating system, the hardware installed, the machine name etc is stored in Tally's server against your serial no. That serial no. is blocked against any other installation preventing duplication of your license. Internet is needed to send the signature file to Tally's server. In response to the entry a file is sent to the computer which is stored in the same folder where Tally is installed. This file is stored as tally9.lic in same folder where tally is installed.
There are two ways to activate the license. Online and Offline. Computer with direct internet connection can activate the license by online process. Those computers which has no direct internet have to follow offline process.
